Thanksgiving break 1n 1978 meant a long weekend, and an opportunity to ride the Canadian Pacific's Ocean, the only CP service, and dome-equipped train in the east from Brownsville Jct., Maine to Montreal and back. But that involved a long drive from home in upstate New York to Maine to catch the Ocean's midnight departure. We spent the day in Montreal and made it over to CP's St. Luc yards and shops for a look, then back for the evening departure to Brownville Jct. We also stopped in Waterville, Maine to see the Maine Central's roundhouse, and Northern Maine Jct. on the way back to catch the Bangor & Aroostock's remaining F3's and BL2s.

The ride to Montreal from Brownville Jct. took place in darkness, so I didn't get any photos of the trip, but got some shots in and around Gare Centrale.
Next we made our way out to CP's big yards and shops on the edge of the city at St. Luc, where we found plenty of interesting engine types that were very rare in the U.S.
The trip back allowed a quick stop to see the Maine Central's offerings in Waterville, and a look at Portland Terminal in Portland .
